Over to You: Your Plans and Research
Understanding Welsh Places is not just about presenting Official Statistics and data collected by public bodies and businesses. This website is also a place where local associations and organisations such as community groups, social enterprises and town and community councils can share their own place-based research and plans for their place or community. We will publish these plans and research on the site as they are sent to us. To find them, either look at the entry for the place you’re interested in and any submissions will be there, or scroll down this page for the full list.

Help and Resources for Place Plans, Community-led Plans and Place-based Research
Don’t have a place-based plan or community-led plan, but want to develop one? Need guidance on conducting research in your area? The links below are a good place to start.
- Planning Aid Wales’ Place Plans website provides guidance, tools and examples for communities and planning professionals interested in developing a Place Plan.
- PLANED stands for Pembrokeshire Local Action Network for Enterprise and Development. This charity supports communities to improve their quality of life by focusing on their opportunities, harnessing potential and helping them to achieve their aspirations. PLANED’s Action Planning process helps communities to build momentum, seek consensus and push for change together. You can read more and access example Action Plans here.
- Shape My Town is a ‘how to’ guide that will give you the tools to explore your place, identify what makes it unique and to plan for its future. It was developed by the Design Commission for Wales.
- The Great British High Street Awards website includes links to a range of reports and resources to help you think about your high street. The town centre ‘personality’ test is a good place to start.
- The CREW (Centre for Regeneration Excellence Wales) website features a range of resources about planning and regeneration, including toolkits and case studies.
